How Can I Help You?
Whatever your hands find to do, do it with all your might.
How Can I Help You?
Have you ever been in a situation and thought, “If I only had someone to help me?” I’m sure we’ve not only had the thought but expressed it verbally. However, do we often ask someone, “How can I help you?” Perhaps, it’s a daily practice for those who assist customers. For others, it may be very uncommon to ask this question.
You might ask why we should ask people if they need help. For some individuals, it is difficult to ask for help. Fear of rejection, being perceived as incompetent, or simply not knowing how to ask, are reasons why it is difficult for individuals to ask for help.
In my book, Grace Loves Her Neighbor, it is apparent that young Grace has a neighbor who did not know how to ask for help. Grace approached the situation with an attitude of “How can I help you?” She never hesitated or expected anything in return. Grace simply wanted to help.
I challenge all of us to take advantage of opportunities that allow us to ask, “How can I help you?”
Here are some tips to get started:
Be observant. Recognize when someone is struggling.
Be confident. You have valuable abilities that qualify you to help.
Be charitable. Helping others has its own reward.
Be thorough. Finish what you start.
Be consistent. If your help is refused, continue to ask because everyone needs help at some point.
