My Journey

From Alabama to

New York!

My Journey As An Author

As an Author, the first questions I am asked are “Why did you begin writing?” and “Did you always want to be an Author?” My desire to write began with a love of reading. The reason I write is because it is my purpose to share messages of kindness, love, togetherness, and helping others. Fulfilling my purpose as an author has been an amazing, joyous, and rewarding journey. When I created Grace, I knew she would touch the lives of many people but I never imagined it would happen so quickly. As I reflect on the release dates of Grace And The Golden Rule and Grace Loves Her Neighbor, I am awestruck and very grateful.

The success and support of the book series has been tremendous. A few days ago, Grace was displayed on the NASDAQ billboard in Times Square, New York. To date, this has been the greatest accomplishment and acknowledgement as an Author. It was exciting for this Alabama girl to see little Grace on the jumbo screen in one of the busiest cities. I was honored to be in the company of so many talented Authors; each one with their own story about the Author's journey.

There are a few things I have learned while on my Author journey. The first thing is the journey is ongoing and I am forever learning. Knowledge has no ending. Everyday I have high expectations for the next “big thing.”

Here are a few more things I have learned:

  1. Find your inspiration. Is it a person, place, or thing? If it’s the first thing you think about in the morning and the last thing you think about at night, it might be your inspiration.

  2. Don’t be intimidated by a blank page or blank screen. Inspiration is not forced, it flows freely. Everyday is not the same, perhaps you will have something to write about the next day or the next day or the next day…

  3. Record your ideas and thoughts. These are like floating bubbles so capture them quickly before they disappear.

  4. IF you ask for feedback, be prepared to receive it. This means maintaining a good attitude when you ask others for feedback. Remember, you asked for it.

  5. Be flexible. The plot or character you initially envisioned may develop differently. Be open to new twists.
